A little more than 4 years ago, I needed 4 new tires for my car. So, I did what most do....I started pricing tires by calling around to the various tire companies in town.
You know the routine - you call one company and they give you a price. Call another and they give a price.
And with most of the calls you make, the tire store tries to push a particular brand that has more of a profit margin for them. They don't tell you that, but that's how the game works.
And you're not even sure if the tire the store is pushing is any good. For all you know, the tire could be inferior.
I'd called at least 5 discount tire stores getting prices and still wasn't sure what to buy.
As I was leaving the office a day or two later, a group of mechanics was standing around a big 4x4 that one of them drove.
They were talking about the new tires he'd just bought....online. The mechanic said he saved about $80 buying online and said the site he purchased at was awesome.
So being the savvy Internet user I am, I went home and hopped online.
All Your Questions Answered - Right At Your Fingertips
The name of the discount tire company he gave me was the Tire Rack. When I visited their site, I was amazed that I could find the answer to every single question I had.
For instance -
- I wanted to know what tires would fit my car
- and I wanted to see as many choices as possible - not just one brand. It was right there on the home page.
- I also wanted to get particulars on the tires I was interested in. It was right there....Overview, Specs, Warranty Info and Test Results
- I also thought it would be great if I could see what other people had to say about the tires I was interested in. Amazingly, you could do that to. There were hundreds-and-hundreds of discount tire reviews
for all the tires I was interested in.
- I wanted to see prices in black-and-white....for all the tires available....with no one pushing one tire over another. That was there to see as well.
- And they even had a Tire Installer Dealer Network
to put the tires on you car.
I spent about a half hour poking around and then purchased a set of four tires - and had them delivered to my home.
I actually ended-up purchasing one of the brands that a discount tire store tried to push on me....but I saved $56 overall. Not bad for a half-hours worth of effort.
Why don't you do the same - give the Tire Rack a look - and see what you can save when you want to purchase tires....with a big discount.
P.S. Here's a HUGE TIP - If your tire size is 50 or greater (i.e. 255 R50 - anything with a narrow sidewall like tires found on performance vehicles & street rods), and you live in a climate where it snows in Winter.... BUY THE ROAD HAZARD WARRANTIES.
I absolutely trashed 3 of my by 50's in the first two years after hitting potholes. I was stupid (and cheap) and didn't purchase the Road Hazard Warranty. So, instead of only spending $40 on the Warranty, I ended up spending $497 for new tires. Don't be Stupid and don't be Cheap - Get the Warranty.
I do have an obligation to point out that not all Car Makers, Dealers, Salespeople, Insurance Companies and Banks are greedy or crooked. This site is dedicated to honest Companies and their Professional Employees who've grown weary of the ignorant and classless giving the automotive related industry a black eye......a black eye that I feel is very close to being permanent.
