If you’re reading this, you’re very likely part of the 80% of all new and used vehicle shoppers that use the Internet to research their next car, van truck or SUV purchase.
I want to share a mistake that many of these people make after they've completed their research.
After they've spent hours investigating their options, they drive over to a couple of dealership's and do what they've always done........meet with a salesperson, who's hanging around the building, and begin the sales ritual so common in the car business.
Sometimes the experience is pleasant - many times it is not.
So, what's the secret to getting a great price, the first time, every time and having the best experience you've ever had?
Knowing the Owner? No - but that helps.
Knowing the General Manager? No – but that can help too.
The Secret is this - Work with an Internet or Fleet Manager - from Start to Finish.
They are the only person you should ever talk to at a New Car Dealer. And all you have to do is ask for them when you call or e-mail!
Every Car Dealership has at least one, perhaps two or three Internet Managers (sometimes called Fleet Managers) that handle Web Inquiries, manage Corporate and Fleet Clients and perhaps do some Web Site Development.
The Internet/Fleet Manager will answer all your questions.
He or She will arrange for a test drive if need be, arrange financing if needed and assist with the delivery of your new car, van, truck or SUV - typically with a no-pressure approach (here's a tip - if the Internet Manager is Pushy, or a Pest, start looking elsewhere for your vehicle - that's how the entire experience will be).
Perhaps the most attractive part of the Internet Process is you'll never hear "Let me go ask my Manager"........and you'll save money, without spending hours and hours negotiating a Sale Price.
Why? Because these folks shoot for a "fair" price with everyone they talk to. They're usually very busy and don't have the time to mess around.
Here's an example of how much money you can save by contacting the Internet/Fleet Manager to get new car prices instead of meeting with the individual that greets you when you get out of your car.
I tracked Sales P&L figures on a regular basis and this is what I discovered.
An Internet Shopper saved a minimum of $397 and a maximum of $1,130 (depending on the model) versus the individual that just drops by and talks to whoever greets them.
The reason they saved that much money is simple - The typical salesperson who handles the "Drop In" shopper might talk to 75 folks a month - and every contact is critical.
It's how they make their living. The more profit they make for the dealership, the more they get paid. And you wonder why you've been treated badly in the past.
The Internet Manager, on the other hand, can talk to more than 300 folks a month - month after month. They're usually to busy to play pricing games.
They deal specifically in volume which means you save money.
If you really want to save the most money, they should be the only contact you have at the New Car Dealer.
