It's a fact - 1 out of every 3 drivers in the U.S. will be involved in a serious auto accident in their lifetime.
Some will walk-away slightly shaken-up. Others will have to be hospitalized. And some will perish.
Why do some walk away while others die? Two reasons - One, the severity of the accident. And two, the over-all safety of the car or truck they are riding in.
There is a HUGE difference in the safety ratings of the vehicles sold in the U.S. - and I'll pass along one man's opinion of what you should do.
Here it is, in a nutshell - if a car, truck, van or suv has a "3" rating, or lower, for either a frontal, rear or side impact....find another vehicle to purchase.
Granted, Car & Truck Makers are doing better with newer models - they are making them safer. But for those purchasing a used car or truck for themselves, of their children, pay close attention to the NHTSA Crash Test Ratings.
Every year, NHTSA (the National Highway Transportation & Safety Administration) tests every new car, truck, van and suv sold in the U.S.
Based on those tests, the vehicles are given a rating using "stars". One "star" is regarded as the worst while 5 "stars" is considered the best.
So what to these "stars" mean to you. Here's an example. If a NHTSA frontal-crash rating for a car you're looking at is 5 stars, that means that there is only a 10% chance of a serious injury in a head-on crash at 35 mph.
On the other hand, a 1 star rating means that you, or a loved-one, have almost a 50% chance of suffering a serious injury in a head-on crash at 35 mph. By serious injury we mean one that causes immediate hospitalization and may be life-threatening.
So make "SAFETY" part of your research when looking to purchase a new or used car, truck, van or suv. If a 5 star rated vehicle will cost you a couple of more bucks a month - spend the money.
When you visit the National Highway Transportation & Safety Administration, all you need to do is choose what type of vehicle it is, the year, make and model.
The ratings go as far back as 1990 ( for those looking to purchase a used car or truck) and are updated every two months or so with test ratings on newer models.
Take a few minutes and poke around the site. It very well could be the most rewarding couple of minutes you spend when looking to buy a car or truck.
One last thought: If you're looking at a new car or truck....get all the side-airbags available on that particular model. Someday, you, your family, or a friend, will be glad you did.
I do have an obligation to point out that not all Car Makers, Dealers, Salespeople, Insurance Companies and Banks are greedy or crooked. This site is dedicated to honest Companies and their Professional Employees who've grown weary of the ignorant and classless giving the automotive related industry a black eye......a black eye that I feel is very close to being permanent.
By using these new and used car guides, I hope to be able to help you find the Best Businesses, and the Professionals that represent them, with very little effort on your part and help you....
Save More Money and More Time Than You Ever Have Before.
It is also my hope that these Companies and the Professionals that represent them will have more business than they can handle - a reward they justly deserve.
