......just ask them
1. Is that OK?
If it's not OK, apologize and say that's the only day it can done because of your work hours (or whatever reason works for you). Don't worry if they say no - Move on, because a bunch of otherprospective buyersClick this link to get a printer friendly page of The Prospective Buyers Information Page" - Phone Numbers & Contact Info - You're going to need it! won't have a problem with it.
By asking just this one, simple questionClick this link to get a printer friendly page of The 7 Questions You Must Ask To Eliminate 75% of Your No-Shows", you've just....cut your no-shows by 25%.
If this person is okay with the Saturday review, you then ask for their first name. Just say,
2. I'm sorry, I didn't get your first name - what is it again?
You'll get their name 99 times out of a 100 by asking this question. Then you say,
3. If something changes regarding my car, should I call you at work or at home?
As soon as they answer that question, you say,
4. And what is that number?
Then say,
5. If my car sells first thing Saturday, (or what ever day you've chosen) do you have a Cell Phone I can call to let you know - I don't want you driving all the way over if the car is sold before you arrive.
Your prospective buyers will love that - and you'll get their Cell Phone number.
Then say,
6. If something changes with your plans, can you please call me and let me know?
Then ask,
7. Do you need my phone number again? ( no need to do this if you're trading e-mails)
That's all there is to it. And by asking thesesimple questionsClick this link to get a printer friendly page of The 7 Questions You Must Ask To Eliminate 75% of Your No-Shows, you've introduced a powerful motivational tool.
Subconsciously, the person on the other end of the phone now knows, that you know, who they are....and your no-shows have just been reduced by another 50% because you've got them on the hook and they're obligated to show.
When Saturday arrives, you're going to have numerous folks looking at your car - on the same day - which creates that magical "Sales Event" atmosphere. When you have only one vehicle to show....and several prospective buyers....you're going to get at least one offer you're going to accept.
I've even seen folks regularly try to out-bid each other. It's absolutely amazing to watch....and that's how you you double your profit!
Total Time To Complete - 1 Hour Loading Ad's - 1 Hour on the Phone - 4 Hours showing your vehicle
It really is best if you ride in the front seat (Shotgun) with any prospective buyer. After all, you don't want that person to take the car for a test-drive....and never return.
However, since you'll typically be hosting a large crowd, it's OK to let them go by themselves - just ask to hold their Drivers License till they return. If they have no Drivers License, or refuse - no test-drive!
And please remember to check with your Insurance Company to see if your vehicle will be covered for this type of situation. If not, get the coverage added for a couple of extra bucks.

Here's a classic Sales Technique that's deadly. When prospective buyers begin to "nit-pick" your vehicle (someone always does), don't worry about it.
Simply say, "I understand - and since it is a used car, I've taken that into account with the price that I'm asking." That usually ends that bit of nonsense. The Buyer has done his or her homework and will know what a valid selling price is - they're just playing games.

To avoid the ridiculous back-and-forth negotiating that sometimes occurs with selling a used car, set your final sale price $300 above (the start of your floor) the absolute least amount (the end of your floor) you'll take.
Most prospective buyers have done some homework and know what your vehicle is selling for....And so have you.
So, if a prospective buyer gets to your "floor" price, just be nice and tell them that's as low as you are willing to go. They already know it's a good price and are just trying to save a little more money.

When you've accepted an offer and are ready to finish the sale - remember one thing. Never, ever accept a personal check. Even if the prospective buyer looks like your dear, old Grandmother, don't do it. You're likely to get burned.
If all they have is a check, tell them that you'll only accept that check if they'll cash that check at their Bank - that's a safe alternative.
Cash is fine. So is a Cashiers Check or Certified Check that your Bank will certainly review to make sure it's legit. Remember, you're having your "sale" at, or near, your Bank. And the Bank will notarize the Title as well.
If there is a loan on the car, your Bank will take care of closing that out....and perhaps do the Car Loan for your buyer.
If it's a clear Title, meaning the car loan is already paid off, and the buyer will finance the purchase with your your Bank, they will cut you a check for the selling price of the car and transfer the Title.
Total Time To Complete - 20 - 30 minutes
Total Time To Sell Your Car - Just A Bit More Than 8 hours
If you cannot complete the transaction that same day (perhaps the Bank is closed already), tell the buyer that you need $200 to take the car off the market (A Personal Check is fine in this situation). You can always complete the transaction the next business day.
Regardless of how the transaction is done, make sure you give the buyer his or her Copy of the Bill-Of-Sale that you prepared earlier....and make sure you get their signature.
If you happen to sell your car to the first people that see it, good for you (it happens at least 50% of the time) - but make sure you call anyone else that had promised to show up - you do not want them showing up if you've already sold your car - it can get ugly!
And make sure you call your Insurance Company and cancel the insurance on the vehicle once all the paperwork has been filed. To be safe, wait two weeks for all the paperwork to make it through the system.
Selling your car, van, truck or SUV will never be tops on anyone's list of "things to do".
