Purchasing a Used Car, Truck, Van ir SUV is big decision. And the greatest concern we have about used cars is this - what, if any, problems has this car or truck had in the past.
So what can you do to be sure you're spending your hard-earned-money on the right car?
By doing two simple things.
1. Check the Used Car History;
2. Use two, fast and easy inspection techniques.
Checking the used car history report is a simple way to insure that the used cars or trucks you're considering haven't had significant issues, such as:
Used Car History Reports will also provide you with four bonus items - essentially key information that will help you decide if the the used car or truck you're looking at is worth the money. They are:
By using the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) to get a used car history report, you can tell within 30 seconds if a used car or truck is worth further review.
To get the VIN, you have several options on where to find it.
- If you're using an Online Service to look at used cars and trucks, the VIN should be listed;
- The Drivers-Side Dash where the window and dash meet;
- The Drivers-Side door frame;
Once you have the VIN, head to Carfax. The first step is to see if a record is available - it's a
free service.
If the complete record is available, you have two options. A single report...and unlimited reports.
If you're focusing on one vehicle, let's say a neighbors or friends car, the single used car history report should work for you. The single used car history report cost's $19.99.
If you are looking at numerous used car or trucks, the unlimited used car history reports plan is the best investment.
You can request as many reports as you like for 30 days and only costs $5.00 more.
Although the Carfax report is your best insurance against buying a lousy used car, here's two other tips that professionals use to insure they're looking at a solid used car - they're called "finger tests".
The first tip, stick your finger in the tailpipe and rub it around the inside diameter (make sure it's not hot). If your finger ends up a little dirty, that's normal. If your finger is slick and smells like burnt oil, the engine has problems. You should avoid a used car or truck that can't pass this "finger" test.
The second tips involves rubbing your finger over every seam on the car or truck. By that, I mean the seam where every panel meets. For instance, where the hood meets the fender or where a door meets a fender.
If the seam is not as smooth as a "baby's but", the car has had paint work done because of rust or, due to an accident. You see, factory paint leaves the seams extremely smooth. Paint work done afterwards always leads to over-spray that will feel a little rough when you run your finger down the seams of the car.
If you feel a "rough" seam, it's time to move on to your next choice.
Getting a used car history report and, using two simple techniques the pro's use, is your best insurance policy when shopping for a used car or truck.
