Have you ever had the pleasure of buying a used car? Did you enjoy the experience? Probably not.
Or, perhaps you're just starting your research for a used car purchase....but are dreading having to deal a used car dealer.
No matter where you're at, having to deal with a used car salesman is ranked #1 on many "most-disliked" lists....and for good reason.
These guys and gals have an established process they work through and most are still using old-style sales techniques....some dating back to the 1950's.
The only way to avoid this type of treatment is to shop differently - particularly when you want to get a price.
I suggest you treat your upcoming purchase as a business transaction....instead of a large retail purchase.
Here's what I mean.
When a large business wants to purchase an expensive item, or a large number of items, like paper or office furniture, they send out their request electronically....and have suppliers "bid" on that order.
And when a company wants to purchase or lease cars and trucks, they do the exact same thing - they send out their "bid" electronically (I help both large and small companies do this on a regular basis).
I want you to do the same when you're looking at used cars.
In the business world, this "bid" is known as an RFP (Request For Proposal). The RFP details what the company wants....and the suppliers bid on it. It's a quick and powerful way to get what they want at a very, very good price.
Companies don't have the time to play games.
They don't want to waste their time meeting with a sales person.
And you know what - neither do you.
If you have a general idea of what you're looking for, try this "bid" process and get an exact price for the used cars you're considering.
Or, if you've already done your research and are ready to purchase, have the Used Car Dealers "bid" on the cars you're interested in.
It's easy to do, fast, Free, and the only way to get used car dealers to play by your rules.
There are 3 online giants that dominate the search for used car prices. Combined, they can show you more than 80% of all the used cars available for sale in the U.S. ( I have them listed below)
You simply find all the used cars that match your make, model, color and mileage requirements - near the area you live in - and send the Dealers an e-mail.
Not just a regular ol' e-mail though. You send them your personal RFP.
You'll be sending an organized RFP to every dealer that has what you want. You very well could get up to 15 bids on the used car you're looking at, particularly if it's a popular model. When the Dealer gets your RFP, they have to make an immediate decision and know if they want to have any shot at your business, they'd better make an attractive bid.
Here's how you do it.
Step 1 - You'll need an e-mail address for communicating your RFP. Don't use your regular e-mail address - e-mail addresses are bought and sold on a regular basis - create a new one. Go to Yahoo and create a new one - It's free and takes about 30 seconds.
Step 2 - On the list below, you'll see the list of the top 3 online vendors with the largest dealer networks in the United States. Go to each site and:
Here's the list for the top online vendors that you'll be sending your RFP to - make sure you use as many as you can to insure your RFP is passed to all participating Dealers in your area:
Internet Brands, Inc. dba carsdirect.com: Used Car Prices - A recommended choice.
Classified Ventures, LLC dba cars.com: Used Car Prices - A recommended choice.
So, you've sent your RFP. What happens next? Two things are going to happen.
One, some of the dealers will e-mail a price back and honor your request for "e-mail contact only". Or perhaps they'll email you back for a clarification. That's good - these are your "keepers".
Write down the individuals name, the Dealership they work at and send a reply back thanking them and asking for that individuals office number - tell them you'll be getting back to them to arrange a test drive or, for further discussions.
Or two, some of the used car dealers will refuse to give you any prices by e-mail and will do nothing but tell you to "stop on by". You sent the RFP with simple instructions - and if they can't follow those instructions and honor your request now, how do you think they'll treat you later?
Eliminate them from your list now today to avoid a miserable experience later.
In less than 10 minutes, you've gotten real, used car prices and know exactly what Dealerships you might end up talking to.
You won't be wasting any time. You'll get a great price - without ever leaving your home or office. And you'll significantly increase the chance of having a great experience when you're shopping for used cars.
I do have an obligation to point out that not all Car Makers, Dealers, Salespeople, Insurance Companies and Banks are greedy or crooked.
