Have you ever had to shop for a used truck? Did you use the classified ads or did you spend time wandering around town visiting different used truck dealers?
Did you enjoy your experience? Probably not - especially if you had to spend any time at a Dealership.
It's a fact - having to haggle with a used car salesman is ranked by many as the #1 disliked experience one can have.
Used car and truck sales people are notorious for using old-style sales techniques and gimmicks, many dating back the late 1950's.
If your plans include shopping for a used truck at franchised dealers, there is only one way to avoid being subjected to "old style" sales tactics - you need to shop differently - especially when it comes to getting a price on a used truck.
My suggestion - treat your purchase like a business transaction....instead of a very expensive retail-type purchase.
Here's a little more of what I mean by that statement.
When a large business wants to purchase an expensive item, or a large number of items, like paper or office furniture, they send out their request electronically....and have suppliers "bid" on that order.
And when a company wants to purchase or lease cars and trucks, they do the exact same thing - they send out their "bid" electronically (I help both large and small companies do this on a regular basis).
I want you to do the same when you're looking at used cars.
In the business world, this "bid" I'm referring to is known as an RFP (Request For Proposal). The RFP spells out in detail what the company wants....it's sent off to a large group of suppliers....and then the suppliers bid on it. It's a quick and powerful way to get what they want at a very, very good price.
Most Companies don't have the time to play games with their suppliers.
They don't have the time to waste meeting with sales people.
And you know what - you don't have the time either.
If you have a general idea of what you're looking for, try this "bid" process and get an exact price for the used trucks you're considering.
Or, if you've already done your research and are ready to start shopping, have the Used Truck Dealers "bid" on the cars you're interested in.
It's very simple to do, fast, Free, and the only sure-fire way to get used car dealers to play by your rules.
There are 3 online giants that dominate the search for used truck prices. Combined, they can show you more than 80% of all the used cars available for sale in the U.S. ( I have them listed below)
You simply find all the used trucks that match your make, model, color and mileage requirements - near the area you live in - and send the Dealers an e-mail.
Not just a regular ol' e-mail though. You send them your personal RFP.
You'll be sending an organized RFP to every dealer that has what you want. You very well could get up to 15 bids on the used truck you're looking at, particularly if it's a popular model. When the Dealer gets your RFP, they have to make an immediate decision, which is - if they want to have any shot at your business, they'd better make an attractive bid.
Here's how you do it.
Step 1 - You'll need an e-mail address for communicating your RFP. Don't use your regular e-mail address - e-mail addresses are bought and sold on a regular basis - create a new one. Go to Yahoo and create a new one - It's free and takes about 30 seconds.
Step 2 - On the list below, you'll see the top 2 online vendors with the largest dealer networks in the United States. Go to each site and:
Here's the list for the top online vendors that you'll be sending your RFP to - make sure you use as many as you can to insure your RFP is passed to all participating Dealers in your area:
Internet Brands, Inc. dba carsdirect.com: Used Truck Prices - A recommended choice.
Classified Ventures, LLC dba cars.com: Used Truck Prices - A recommended choice.
So, you've sent your RFP. What happens next? Well, two things could happen.
One, some of the dealers you sent your request to will e-mail a price back and "play by your rules" - meaning they will honor your request for "e-mail contact only". Or, maybe they will send you an e-mail reply asking for a clarification or more info.
That's a good thing - these are your "keepers".
Write down the individuals name, the Dealership they work for and send them a quick reply back. Thank them, get their office number and tell them that you'll be getting back to them shortly to arrange a test drive and talk directly to them.
Or two, some of the used truck dealers will refuse to give you any prices by e-mail and ask you to "come on down" so they can meet you at talk about it a little more.
You sent the RFP with simple instructions - and they can't even follow those.
How do you think they're going to treat you later? I'll tell you how - LOUSY!.
Eliminate them from your list now today to avoid a miserable experience later.
In less than 10 minutes, you've gotten real, used truck prices and know exactly what Dealerships you you're going to be talking to.
You won't waste any time driving all over town, you'll get a great price without ever leaving your home or office. And, you'll significantly increase the chance of having a great experience when you're shopping for used trucks.
